Both executed by Germany in WWI
Nurse Edith Cavell (04/12/65 - 12/10/15)
Matron of the Secular Hospital Saint Gillies Brussels
Who treated friend and foe alike without fear or favour
She also helped smuggle some 200 individuals to Neutral Holland .
She was betrayed , arrested & imprisoned .
Charged with “Harbouring Allied Soldiers “
Tried by Imperial German Court Martial .
Found guilty and executed by firing squad
On 12th October 1915
Her final words to a German Priest-
“Ask Father Gahan to tell my loved ones later on that my soul, as I believe, is safe and that I am glad to die for my country."
Captain Charles Fryatt, (02/12/72 - 27/07/16)
A Merchant Seaman ,
Charged with “Illegal Civilian Warfare “
In 1915 he had attempted to Ram a surfaced U Boat
The U Boat escaped but the die was cast
He was captured off of occupied Belgium in 1916
Tried by an Imperial German Naval Court Martial .
Found guilty and executed by firing squad,
On the 27th July 1916
Both cards are in fair to average condition,
But iwhat they represent is priceless.
