TRENCH DIGGING PLATE - SOLE PROTECTOR

Unusual “Digging Plate” or Sole protector
A piece of iron (?) shaped to fit the bottom of a boot
With leather sides (with lace eyes ) riveted in place
Would have been laced over the boot
(With the plate underneath )
To protect the boot sole from the shovel / spade blade
Whilst digging trenches , or holes in general.
Believe these can be found with or without WD marks
There appears to be nothing at all on this example
Leather is dry , Metal is heavily pattinated
But a interesting piece & nice addition to a collection
