UNUSUAL WW1 (?) US OPEN TOPPED HOLSTER

Unusual Tooled Leather open topped holster
It appears to be for a revolver possibly a .38
The belt loop is integral to the holster.
It’s flapped over and then sown riveted
(The two leather straps seen in the pictures)
Appears to have once had a retaining strap
Top right hand “corner” of the leather is missing
And as can be seen there’s a stud on the 1st strap
Some general wear and tear
With damage as mentioned (Little also on one edge )
An interesting item I’ve put down as WW1 US
Though honestly I really don’t know.
Displays well a nice tactile piece.
