EARLY WWI FRENCH GREATCOAT (1887 PATTERN)

Excellent quality French dark blue greatcoat.
Double breasted with red collar tabs
(one of which has the No.7 attached)
Two false pockets to the front
With two slit pockets to the back
(Open ended as to access trousers etc )

Inside half lined with a white cotton material.
(Some speckling- Foxing to it)
There’s also a label inside for a theatrical company
Based 7-8 King Street Covent Garden London
(Many old uniforms ended up as theatre props)
Along with a name etc in black pen

A couple of small repairs but otherwise in VGC
Appears to be a pre WW1 1887 pattern Greatcoat
Still used in 1914 / 1915 by French troops
Until the introduction of the lighter Horizon Blue cloth
Some of the buttons have been replaced,
It had a mishmash attached when I acquired it
Being both British livery & French military buttons

A scarce item that displays very well
A nice addition to any French WW1 collection
There are a couple of anomalies with the item,
It has shoulder strap epaulettes
Rather than the “Rolls” normally seen
It also has front false pockets
Something not seen on French Great Coats
There’s a possibility it’s a very old theatrical copy
But I can’t see this as it shows genuine age
And as already said is of excellent quality
Possibly militia / territorial usage
I really don’t know

Price has been reduced from £400 - £250
To take the aforementioned anomalies into account.
